Abstract

1280004 Roofs L BACCI 26 June 1969 [27 June 1968] 32290/69 Heading E1W A structural roofing unit comprises a lower shell 6, 7 surmounted by a pair of reinforced concrete arches 1 which become one at a common crown portion 1a, each arch lying in an inclined plane, and being connected to the shell by tie rods 5 lying in said inclined planes. Prestressed concrete beams 2 span the lower ends of each arch and end beams 3 connect the ends of beams 2. Each shell has a central curved panel 6 and a pair of cantilevered panels 7, the portion thereof, 6a and 7a, outside beams 3 being of different curvatures from the intermediate portions, and being of mutually identical curvature (Fig. 4, not shown) to form continuous edges between adjacent units. The intermediate portions of panels 7 are curtailed, as shown in Fig. 3, to provide skylight openings 8. Each arch is formed of pre-fabricated components interconnected by cast concrete. The shell panels are said to be of brick-cement.
