875,333. Shell roofs. SILBERKUHL, W. J. Oct. 13, 1959 [Oct. 20, 1958], No. 34610/59. Class 20(4) A reinforced concrete shell roof structure 1 with a substantially rectangular ground plan, having opposite curvatures in the longitudinal and transverse directions, and supported from upwardly concave opposite end edges 2, 3, between which one or more tie rods extend, is provided with a cover-plate extending between and statically connected to the side edges 4 of the shell so as to form a hollow body therewith. The cover plate may be a single structural unit or may comprise a number of sections 5a, 5b, 5c ... placed alongside each other. The cover-plate 5 or the sections 5a, 5b, 5c ... thereof may be prefabricated and may have projecting reinforcing members 6, Fig. 2, on their ends adapted to be embedded in the concrete of the shell 1 whilst this is still plastic. The edges of the cover-plate sections may have denticulations to facilitate jointing and grouting of the sections. The roof may be formed by a number of spaced beams each consisting of a hollow body formed from a shell 1 and cover-plate 5, with additional plate elements 10, which may be in the form of window unit elements, laid between individual beams. The hollow bodies formed by the shell and coverplate may be used as air-conditioning channels. Specification 827,933 is referred to.
