Abstract
1279518 Electro-photographic imaging SAVIN BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 4 Aug 1970 [26 Aug 1969] 37579/70 Heading G2H In a process of charging the photo-conductive surface of an electro-photographic element comprising an insulating layer having a conductive film thereon and a photo-conductive layer on the film, the surface is charged with a corona and the potential of the film is controlled during charging to control the charge per unit area on the surface. In an embodiment an electrophotographic element 18 comprising a layer 16 of zinc oxide in resin, an aluminium film 14, a polyethylene terephthalate sheet 12 and on aluminium film 20 is charged by a plurality of corona wires 26. Layer 14 is contacted by a brush 34 connected to brush 36 engaging a resistance winding 38. The voltage applied to film 14 will control the charging of layer 16. Alternatively the voltage may be applied to film 20. In another embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown) the film 20 is omitted. Latent image development may be effected by immersing the element in a liquid developer 42 and appling a potential 46 to film 14. Positive or negative toner is used according to the desired image polarity.
