Abstract

1,204,246. Electrostatic printing. RANK XEROX Ltd. 20 March, 1968 [27 March, 1967], No. 13515/68. Heading B6C. [Also in Division G2] A master plate, Fig. 3, for electrographic printing comprises an imagewise pattern of insulating elements 18 fused into a lubricous resinous coating 16 on a conducting substrate 14. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, the master is in the form of a drum 10 which is rotated past a charger A so that the image 18 becomes charged, and at developing station B, oppositely charged toner particles are applied and they adhere to the image. These toner particles are transferred at C to a paper web 20, and fused thereto by a fuser D, any toner particles remaining on the drum being removed by a brush E. The image 18 on the drum may be produced xerographically, e.g. it may comprise a fused toner image, or by non-xerographic techniques. The resinous coating may be e.g. polyethylene, polyacrylonitrile, polyamide, polyurethane, or polyvinyl chloride, and is of such thickness that the conductor/coating laminate is substantially conductive. The master plate may be made by spraying, coating or painting the thin plastics film on to the drum surface, or on to a flexible conductive sheet which is secured to the drum periphery.
