Abstract

1279073 Cutting apparatus KWOK-KWAN LO [trading as TUNG HING PLASTIC FACTORY] 12 Jan 1971 1504/71 Heading B4B An apparatus for opening envelopes comprises motor-driven rotatable cutting-wheels 6, 6<SP>1</SP> and a pivotable lever 11 arranged so that as an envelope is fed towards the nip of the cutting wheels, the envelope pivots the lever to actuate the motor. The cutting wheels are driven, via gears (not shown), by means of an electric motor 4, the gears also driving a toothed feed-wheel 7 against which a second wheel 7<SP>1</SP> is held by a spring 8. The lever 11 is pivoted at 13 on the apparatus frame 12 and is normally urged by a spring 14 against a stop 17. In operation, when an envelope is fed through the apparatus, the lever is deflected so that a projection 15 thereon contacts a fixed contact 16 thereby completing a circuit between batteries 5 and the electric motor.
