Abstract

1278896 Amidoamine carboxylic and sulphonic acids HENKEL & CIE GmbH 1 May 1970 [3 May 1969] 20987/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division C7] An acid electroplating bright zinc bath additive comprises a product (optionally in the form of a salt) formed by the reaction of an amidoamine with an alkylating agent which contains or forms carboxyl or sulphonic acid groups (and optionally neutralizing the reaction product), the amount of alkylating agent and amidoamine employed during the reaction being such that there are 0À5 to 2À5 mols of alkylating agent present per basic nitrogen atom, the amidoamine having been formed by the condensation of an aliphatic, saturated or unsaturated mono- and/or di-carboxylic acid having from 4-18 carbon atoms with a polyalkylenepolyamine. In the examples as numbered, the additive is made by a process which includes reacting the substances indicated in brackets to produce the amidoamine and then alkylating using the agent indicated. Examples 1 to 5 (adipic acid + tetraethylene-pentamine) + propanesultone or chloracetic acid neutralized with NaOH. Examples 6 to 9 (maleic anhydride + tetraethylene - pentamine) + propane. sultone or chloroacetic acid neutralized with NaOH. Example 10 (caprylic acid+triethylenetetramine) + propanesultone. Example 11 (linoleic acid + triethylenetetramine) + propanesultone. Example 12 (sebacic acid+triethylenetetramine) + propane sultone.
