Abstract

1428457 Amino-substituted polymeric amides and salts thereof SANDOZ Ltd 20 Feb 1973 [24 Feb 1972] 8183/73 Heading C3P [Also in Division D1] Amine - substituted polymeric amides are formed by reacting, at a temperature of at least 100‹ C., either oxidized polyethylene or an ethylene/unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acid copolymer with an amine containing a C 11-22 alkyl or alkenyl radical, an ethylene or propylene radical and at least two nitrogen atoms of which at least one is in a primary or secondary amine group. In examples, the polymer is ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer or oxidized polyethylene and the amine is 1-aminoethyl-2- stearyl - imidazoline, N - stearoyl - dipropylene triamine or an N-alkylamino-propylamine or polypropylene polyamine in which the "alkyl" is mixed C 16 / 18 alkyl/alkenyl. The above products may be converted to salts by neutralizing residual amine groups with an acid, e.g. phosphoric, hydrochloric, perchloric, formic, acetic or chloroacetic acids. Dispersions of these salts are applied to textiles, e.g. polyamide yarn, as softening and antistatic agents.
