Abstract
1,223,078. Polyolefin derivatives. CHEVRON RESEARCH CO. 28 Aug., 1969 [29 Aug., 1968], No. 42968/69. Heading C3P. [Also in Division C5] Acid salts of polyolefin substituted alkylene polyamines of formula wherein U is C 2-6 alkylene with at least 2 carbon atoms between the nitrogen atoms, R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group of molecular weight 420 to 5000 derived from a polyolefin, a is 0 to 10, b is 0 or 1, a + 2b is 1 to 10, c is 1 to 5 with an average of 1 to 4 and is less than the number of amine nitrogen atoms, x is 0À1 to a + 2b, n is the number of acidic protons in acid Y which can be titrated below pH 7 and Y is sulphuric or phosphoric acid, may be prepared by adding the acid to a reaction product of a halogenated polyolefin and an alkylene polyamine. The polyolefin may be polyisobutylene or polypropylene. The products are useful as detergent additives to hydrocarbon fuels. Examples describe the preparation of (I) phosphoric and (II) sulphuric acid salts of reaction products of polyisobutenyl chloride with commercial tetraethylene pentamine.
