Abstract
1440973 Catalytic alcoholysis or phenolysis of phosphorus pentasulphide PRODUITS CHIMIQUES UGINE KUHLMANN 6 June 1973 [7 June 1972] 09167/76 Divided out of 1440971 Heading C2P The alcoholysis or phenolysis of P 2 S 5 is carried out in the presence of at least one catalyst which is a compound of Formula I (other than azo bis isobutyronitrile) which contains 1 to 20 C atoms and 1 to 6 O, S, N or P atoms, and where X is H or optionally substituted hydrocarbyl, Y is O, S, mono-substituted N (including NH) or mono- or di-substituted P and n is 0 or 1 or a salt of such a compound with an organic or mineral acid or base. The catalyst may be a cyanamide derivative, a nitrile, a cyanate or a thiocyanate. In examples various types of P 2 S 5 are reacted with ethylene glycol, 2-butoxyethanol, xylenol, isopropanol and methanol.
