1440972 Catalytic alcoholysis or phenolysis of phosphorus pentasulphide PRODUITS CHIMIQUES UGINE KUHLMANN 6 June 1973 [7 June 1972] 09166/76 Divided out of 1440971 Heading C2P The alcoholysis or phenolysis of phosphorus pentasulphide is carried out in the presence of at least one catalyst which is a compound capable of being represented by the Formula I which has 0 to 20 C atoms and 1 to 10 O, S, N or P atoms and where m is 0 or 1, X<SP>1</SP> is H, optionally substituted hydrocarbyl, -N=Z or -N(Q)Q<SP>1</SP>, Q and Q<SP>1</SP> are H or optionally substituted hydrocarbyl or together form a ring, Z is O, S or a divalent radical which may form a ring with X<SP>1</SP>, Y is O, optionally substituted S, monosubstituted N (including NH) or mono- or disubstituted P or a salt of such a compound with an organic or mineral acid or base. The catalyst may be a heterocyclic compound such as pyridine, a guanidine derivative, a nitrogen oxide, a nitrite, a nitroxylic acid, a pseudonitrol, a nitrosamine, an isocyanate, an oxime, a hydrazone, an amidine, a nitroso compound or an imine. In examples various types of P 2 S 5 are reacted with isopropanol, isodecanol, cyclohexanol, t-butanol, xylenol, ethylene glycol, 2- butoxyethanol and methanol.
