Abstract

1440971 Catalytic alcoholysis and phenolysis of phosphorus pentasulphide PRODUITS CHIMIQUES UGINE KUHLMANN 6 June 1973 [7 June 1972] 27041/73 Heading C2P The alcoholysis or phenolysis of P 2 S 5 is carried out in the presence of at least one catalyst selected from compounds capable of being represented by the Formula I (excluding triethylamine and ammonia) which compounds have 1 to 20 C atoms and 1 to 10 O, S, N or P atoms, X, Q and Q<SP>1</SP> are H or optionally substituted hydrocarbyl or together in pairs form rings, Y is O, optionally substituted S, mono-substituted N (including NH) or mono- or disubstituted P and n is 0 or 1 or a salt of such a compound with an organic or mineral acid or base. The catalyst may be an amine, carboxylic or thiocarboxylic amide, urea, thiourea, isourea, hydrazine derivative, semicarbazide, sulphamic acid, sulphamate, sulphinamide, sulphonamide, amide of a phosphorus acid, carbamate or hydroxamic acid. In examples various phosphorus pentasulphides are reacted with isopropanol, isodecanol, cyclohexanol, t-butanol, xylenol, ethylene glycol, 2-butoxyethanol and methanol.
