Abstract
1378481 Substituted ureas QUIMCO GmbH 4 Dec 1972 [6 Dec 1971 4 July 1972] 56582/71 and 31273/72 Heading C2C A process for preparing substituted ureas of the general formula:- R(NHCONR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>11</SP>) n in which R is an unsubstituted or substituted aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or heterocyclic radical and n is an integer or in which R is a hydrogen atom and n is 1, and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP>, which may be the same or different, are unsubstituted or substituted monovalent aliphatic radicals or together represent an unsubstituted or substituted divalent radical in which at least one of the two carbon atoms adjoining the nitrogen atom of the urea is aliphatic, comprises reacting a compound of the general formula:-R(NH 2 ) n at a temperature of from 50 to 200 C. with a secondary ammonium N,N-disubstituted thiolcarbamate of the general formula: -R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>11</SP>NCO<SP>##</SP>S.NH 2 R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>11</SP>. The reaction may be carried out at atmospheric or superatmospheric pressure, and in the presence of an inert solvent. The reaction may also be carried out in two stages, where the major product of the first stage carried out below 50 C. which is a primary ammonium N,N-disubstituted thiolcarbamate or ammonium N,N-disubstituted thiolcarbamate of formula:-(R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>11</SP>NCOS<SP>##</SP>.NH 3 ) n R is then thermally decomposed at 50 to 200 C.
