Abstract

1341844 Pyrimidines IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [2 March 1970] 9838/70 Heading C2C Pyrimidines of general Formula (I): wherein R is H or an optionally substituted alkyl or aryl group, R<SP>1</SP> is H or alkyl, and R<SP>11</SP> is alkyl, are prepared by adding a salt of an alkyl guanidine of formula H 2 N-C(=NH)-NHR<SP>11</SP> and an equivalent amount of an acid binding compound to an alcohol or phenol of formula XOH wherein X is an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group containing a total of at least three carbon atoms, adding to the mixture an ester of an acylacetic acid of formula and maintaining the reaction mixture at 20- 150‹ C.
