1471902 Styryl sulphonamidines BRISTOL MYERS CO 10 June 1974 [11 June 1973 8 April 1974] 48601/75 Divided out of 1471901 Heading C2C Novel compounds of Formula I wherein R 1 is hydrogen, alkyl, nitro, amino, halogen, cyclohexyl, carbamoyl, alkylsulphonyl containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, sulphamoyl, or alkanoylamido containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, R 2 is hydrogen, alkyl or halogen, R 3 is alkyl containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms or hydrogen, and A is alkyl containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, di-(C 1-4 )alkylaminophenyl, phenyl, benzyl, #-naphthyl, styryl, phenylbutadienyl or (X) n phenylwherein X is alkoxy containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, halogen, nitro, amino, or alkanoylamido containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms and n is 1 or 2 are prepared either by reaction of a compound of Formula II with a compound of Formula III or by reaction of a compound of Formula IV with R 3 NH 2 . Intermediates of Formula II above are prepared by action of PCl 5 on the sulphonic acid obtained by reaction of SO 2 on the appropriately substituted styrene. Intermediates of Formula IV above are prepared by action of PCl 5 on the corresponding amides. Other starting materials for these intermediates are prepared. Pharmaceutical compositions in conventional forms and having analgesic activity comprise an above novel compound and a carrier therefor.
