Abstract

1304979 Detergents containing sequestering agents ATLAS CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Inc 1 July 1971 [2 July 1970] 30865/71 Heading C5D A sequestrant composition which may be added to aqueous alkali metal hydroxides in bottle washing compositions comprises a mixture of (A) citric acid, tartaric acid or a polyhydroxy monocarboxylic acid containing from 6 to 8 carbon atoms and having the formula CH 2 OH(CHOH) n COOH wherein n is 4 to 6, or a water-soluble salt thereof and (B) a polyhydroxy dicarboxylic acid containing 5 to 8 C atoms or a polyhydroxy monocarboxylic ketoacid containing from 6 to 8 C atoms, or a watersoluble salt thereof. Compounds (A) include glueonic acid, gulonic acid, glucoheptanoic acid and glucoactanoic acid. Compounds (B) include arabotrihydroxyglutaric acid, saccharic acid, mucic acid, allomucic acid, talomucic acid; 2,3,4,5,6 - pentahydroxyheptanedioic acid and 2,3,4,5,6,7 - hexahydroxyactanedioic acid; 2-[3- or 4-]-ketogulonic acids, 2-[3-, 4- or 5-]- ketogluconic acids and 2-ketoglucoheptanoic acid. The acids may be in the form of the alkali metal or ammonium salts. The wt. ratio of compound (A) to compound (B) is at least 1 and is preferably 2 to 10.
