Abstract
127,869. Clifford, F. P., and Clifford, H. June 8, 1917. Projectile fuses.-Relates to percussion fuses comprising a central firing-pin and graze-pellet having a spring-controlled detent on one side thereof, and consists in enclosing these parts of the fuse in a cylindrical plug B formed separately from the fuse-body A, the plug being adapted to be secured within an eccentric chamber A<3> in the body A so that the graze-pellet D and firing-pin C, Fig .2, which are eccentrically disposed in the plug B, are centrally situated in the fuse-body when the plug is in position. The plug B is made of non-rusting material, such as brass, and the fuse-body A is preferably of cheaper metal, such as cast-iron. The construction is such that the fuse is weatherproof, as there are no passages leading from the exterior to the working parts.
