Abstract

1278531 Anaerobic culturing device and method PFIZER Inc 13 Feb 1970 [3 June 1969] 7153/70 Heading C6F An anaerobic atmosphere is generated within a plastics, micro-biological culturing device 10, Fig. 2, by adding to absorbent material 22 impregnated with sodium carbonate or bicarbonate (or the corresponding potassium salts) or alternatively pyrogallic acid, drops of acid (specified) or alkali, respectively, from a dropper 34. The absorbent material is contained within a hollow tube 20 bearing a shoulder 28 for engagement with the lid 14 of the device and the tube is closed by a stopper 24. In other constructions a pad or strip of the absorbent material is held to the lid (or wall) of the device by pressure-sensitive tape or barbed prongs 36A, Fig. 5, and the aperture 18A is sealed by pressure-sensitive tape 38A. All of the necessary chemicals can be added in solution by dropper instead of preimpregnating the absorbent material with part of them.
