Abstract

1278291 Spray carburetters BRITISH MOTOR CORP Ltd 1 July 1970 [29 April 1969 21669/69 Heading F1B The carburetter of Specification 1223921 is modified by the provision of a flexible cord or tape 22 connecting the pressure-responsive diaphragm 16 to the choke control member 12. The cord or tape 22 is tensioned by a spiral spring 28 between the member 12 and its housing 14, the spring also loading the diaphragm 16 against atmospheric pressure. The tape 22 is fixed by a pin 25 and a clip 24 to a drum 23 on the member 12. The drum 23 may be contoured to provide for a decreasing movement ratio between needle and choke member movement on opening of the choke. In a twin-choke carburetter, Fig.4 4 (not shown) the respective choke members (12A, 12B) are connected to the opposite ends of a flexible strip (31). The strip (31) has a horizontal-portion on a member (32) clamped between parts of a guide (33) fixed to the diaphragm (16) and sliding in bushes (34) in a bore (35) in the carburetter body. Respective fuel metering needles (6A, 6B) are carried by the strip support member (32). The tape may be stainless steel, beryllium-copper or non-stretch plastics and the cord fine metal wires or polyester fibres. A single choke member 12 may be operated by a pair of cords or tapes connected to pulleys or drums at opposite ends of the member, the vertical runs of the cords or tapes being connected to a horizontal member carrying the metering needle 6.
