Abstract

1278086 Solid state welding COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON HOUSTON-HOTCH. KISS 26 Sept 1969 [26 Sept 1968] 47600/69 Heading B3R In a method of connecting stabilized composite superconductive elements 1, 2 by pressure and heat, the elements may comprise wires 7 embedded in a stabilizer 8 which may be formed of copper or aluminium. The pressure may be applied to the tapered overlapping ends of the elements by a press having dies 4 and the heating of which may be carried out by a resistance furnace 6, the temperature being 200‹ to 600‹ C. for an aluminium stabilizer and 300‹ to 800‹ C. for a copper stabilizer. The operation may be carried out in the ambient atmosphere or in nitrogen or in vacuum.
