127,676. Armstrong, Whitworth, & Co., Sir W. G., and Allan, A. May 23, 1917. Valves controlled from a distance.-In hydraulic apparatus for operating the valves of an internal combustion engine, the transmitting cylinder C', Fig. 1, communicates with a compensating tank E' by means of ports D' which are open during the first part of the piston stroke, the pressure in the tank being maintained by an adjustable spring-controlled plunger F'. The transmission line may be connected to the tank by a by-pass R<1> with valve S<1>, the effective stroke of the transmitting piston may be varied by means of a screwed sleeve Y', Fig. 3, and the by-pass may consist of a port in the cylinder C<1> above the ports D<1> controlled manually by a valve. Means for removing air may be provided.
