Abstract

1275748 Carrier bag handles SMITH & NEPHEW PLASTICS Ltd 23 June 1969 [22 June 1968] 29890/68 Heading A4G [Also in Division B8] A carrier bag is provided with a handle 16 disposed within and heat welded to an upper edge gusset 18. The bag and handle are formed of or coated with a heat sealable material. The bag may be formed of polythene film, a polythene and nylon two or three layer laminate, coated or impregnated paper, bonded fibre or metal foil or a combination thereof. A film which is part pigmented to leave an inspection window may be used. The handle may be moulded from thermoplastics material or cut from coated or impregnated cardboard. The handle 16 includes a carrying loop 25 formed integrally with a spline 24 which may extend for part of or the whole of the bag width. The bag may be formed from lay-flat tubing or by fin sealing Fig.3 (not shown) or lap sealing a sheet. A line of perforations may be formed in the gusset folds to facilitate opening. The bottom edge of the bag may be gusseted.
