1275649 Knitting-machines S A MONK (SUTTON IN ASHFIELD) Ltd 2 July 1970 [7 July 1969] 34166/69 Heading D1C A rib to plain straight-bar machine includes a plurality of groups of loop transfer points which receive loops and are racked for transfer to achieve loop doubling when spaced apart, and which can be closed together while holding loops to eliminate gaps. The points are mounted on the fashioning mechanism but can be raised clear of the needles, when not required. The groups of points 14 are set in blocks 13 frictionally mounted on a rod 12 and spaced by stops 17. The fashioning mechanism is moved sideways while the blocks are spaced as shown, to transfer loops. The loops are then re-engaged and the rod 12 shogged to the right relative to the mechanism by a pneumatic ram to close the groups together against the right hand group, thereby closing the gaps caused by the doublings. The blocks can be respaced by moving rod 12 to the left. In an alternative embodiment a series of point blocks 57 are attached to inter-engaging brackets 59 carried in a box 39 fixed to a bar 40 which can be shogged by the fashioning screws. A further bar 42 selectively displaced relative to the first moves a dust guard plate 64 overlying the back of the blocks and fixed to an end bracket to close these together. The points are provided on either side of the needle bed overlying a quarter of the needle complement. Doubling is achieved in those quarters by transfer, and the gaps created, eliminated by picking up the loops and closing the gaps between the blocks. Doubling is effected in the control quarters by picking up loops on the closed blocks, making a single pitch transfer, then repositioning the blocks inwards by one block width. Finally the gaps thereby created in the outer quarters are closed by raising the loops on spaced groups, closing them together and returning them to the needles.
