Abstract
1275497 Making terminals; jointing by stamping; shearing; punching; angular bending GENSTAPE Inc 2 Nov 1970 [3 Nov 1970] 51984/70 Headings B3A B3E B3Q and B3W Electrical terminals are stamped and severed from a continuous strip, placed in a die with a conductor and crimped to the conductor. Brass strip 10 is fed intermittently by cams 12 driven by a motor 2 via a one-revolution clutch and gear 30, the motor rotating continuously. The clutch, which is solenoid actuated via a foot switch 7 drives a crank-pin (37) for actuating slides 32, (33), Fig. 2 (not shown). The cams 12 are angularly adjustable and the feed depends on the period of rotation during which the strip 10 is gripped by arcuate cam surfaces 28. The strip, shown in Fig. 5, is positioned with a T- shaped portion of the end terminal 54 over an anvil 23. The slides 32, (33), then descend. A pin 26 on the slide 32 enters a locating hole 53 and a shear blade 52 cuts off the terminal along a line 55. The slide 32 also drives a bending tool assembly 21 downwardly to bend the flanges of the T-shaped portion over the part 51 of the anvil. The speed of the slide 33 now exceeds that of the slide 32 and a ram 43 is driven downwardly. When it contacts the terminal, cam faces (46), 47, Fig. 3 (not shown), move the anvil out of the path of the ram, which drives the terminal into a crimping die 17, where it is secured to one or two leads previously located therein. As the assembly 21 approaches the die, a boss 36 on the slide 32 engages the bottom end of a slot 35 in a slide 31. This slide drives a punch 19a, which pierces another opening 53, punches 19b, 19c, which remove material about the eyelet circumference, and a punch 19d, which removes a bridge 57. On the upward stroke of the slides 32, 33, a spring 24 returns the anvil 23 as the cam faces (46), 47 separate and the boss 36 raises the slide 31 when it reaches the upper end of the slot 35. A stripper plate 15 prevents the strip moving upwardly with the tools.
