Abstract

Folding paper.-In a paper &c. folding-apparatus of the kind in which a folding-blade, carried by a rotating shaft mounted in a folding-cylinder, thrusts the sheet into the bite of a pair of folding-rollers, the blade shaft being rotated by the engagement of a gear fast upon it with a fixed internal gear, the outer end of the blade shaft is supported in a bearing provided in a member secured to the shaft of the folding-cylinder. As shown, the folding-cylinder fixed to the shaft 11 carries a shaft 13 to which is fixed a folding-blade 12. The shaft 13 carries a gear 14 meshing with a fixed internal gear 15 by which the blade is turned to thrust the sheet or sheets into the bite of the folding-rollers 16, 17. The outer end of the shaft 13 is supported in a bearing in a heavy fly-wheel 18 fixed to the shaft 11, a weight 19 being secured to the fly-wheel opposite to the shaft 13 to balance the weight of the shaft 13 and its mounted parts. The shaft 13 is further supported by the engagement of loose rollers 20, 21, Fig. 3, with track rings 22, 23 secured to the sides of the gear 15, and by the engagement of rollers 26 carried by arms 24. 25 loose on the shaft 13 with annular grooves in the sides of the tracks 22, 23. In a modification, a second folding-blade is carried by a shaft mounted similarly to the shaft 13, but at the opposite side of a diameter of the cylinder.
