Abstract
127,456. Thompson, W. P., (Union Special Machine Co.) Aug. 7. 1918. Sewing - machines ; trimming or cutting.- The presser-foot of a sewing-machine, provided with devices for guiding and trimming the edges of fabric as it is led to the stitching-devices, carries a plate 17, for deflecting the trimmed-off parts away from the stitching-devices, which is mounted so that it may be swung upwardly and laterally from its normal operative position to give access to the needles. In one construction, the plate is secured to an arm 18 pivoted on an inclined pin 23 secured in two lugs 21, 22 on the shank of the presserfoot. The plate is retained in either its operative or inoperative position by a spring plate 28a engaging square shoulder on the lugs 21, 22. In another construction, the arm 18 is pivoted on a vertical pin 25 between lugs 21, 22. A spring 26 is interposed between the upper lug and the arm, a bevelled surface 27<x> on which co-acts with a similar surface on the lower lug.
