In a nuclear reactor pressure vessel, thermal protection of the walls, or liners, is provided by a layer of insulation which is retained in position by cover-plates which are mounted so as to permit of their thermal expansion. The peg, 4, secured to the pressure vessel wall, 3, is provided with the flexible metal arms 5. The latter are welded to the adjacent insulation cover-plates, 1, which are free to expand laterally but are prevented from moving perpendicularly to the wall surface and the insulation la.
