Abstract
1396705 Calandria vessel UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 14 Sept 1972 [29 Sept 1971] 45372/71 Heading G6C A calandria vessel for a SGHWR comprises calandria tubes 3 reinforced by external cladding 11 comprising a solid-walled tube of a material selected from the group zirconium alloy, titanium alloy and beryllium alloy. The cladding allows the tubes to withstand impact by missiles resulting from a coolant-tube breach. An upper region of the vessel, defined between the tube-plate 2 and a diaphragm 5, is cooled by a flow of moderator returning from heat-exchange apparatus. The tubes 3 are of aluminiummagnesium alloy.
