Abstract
1,272,773. Steam generators. STRUTHERS SCIENTIFIC & INTERNATIONAL CORP. 14 Aug., 1969 [20 Aug., 1968], No. 39806/68. Heading F4A. A steam generator system for secondary oil recovery, comprises heating coils 31, 33, a flue 34 leading to a spray tower 38, wherein combustion products heat untreated feedwater sprayed from nozzles 6, to provide hot water in a storage area 39 above a conical reaction chamber 57 into which pipes 59, 60 introduce lime and soda ash respectively, and a pipe 61<SP>1</SP> introduces the hot water, lime and soda ash into the bottom of the reaction chamber 57 which contains a suspended sludge blanket 63 formed by precipitates through which the water passes to a collector system 64. Untreated water 50 is fed by a pump 51 to the nozzles 6 which are mounted on pipes 44, 45, 46 which branch from a common manifold 47, the supply to the nozzles being controlled by valves 48, 49, 50. The untreated water may be fed through an oil filter 54. The level of water in the storage area 39 is controlled by a valve 4 and detecting apparatus 8. To effect better use of the lime fed from a hopper 12, and the soda ash fed from a tank 23, the sludge blanket 63 is recirculated through lines 66-73 by a pump 3. A quick opening valve 20 and ejector 21 remove slugs of solids from the bottom of the reaction chamber. The treated feedwater at 64 passes through anthracite filters 22, 22<SP>1</SP>, 22<SP>11</SP> which can be backwashed with hot water through line 65, valve 79 and line 80, the backwash returning to the spray tower 38 by line 81. Pumps 29, 35 feed treated water to the coils.
