[Also in Division C7] In a method and apparatus for treating metal strip, preferably steel strip, the strip is heated and maintained at an annealing temperature by heating means 3, preferably 650‹ C. to 950‹ C. for 4 to 5 sec., then rapidly cooled by cooling means 4, preferably by an inert gas, to a tempering temperature, preferably 300‹ to 450‹ C., in 1 to 1À5 secs, isothermally tempered, preferably by passing over heated driven rollers 5 for 10 to 30 secs., and subjecting the strip to skinpass rolling by alternate bending around the rolls of a device 6, the strip tension being controlled during annealing and skin pass rolling. The rolls of device 6 may be up to 80 mm. in diameter.
