Abstract
1,272,388. Gas blast circuit breakers. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. 9 July, 1970 [11 July, 1969], No. 33360/70. Heading H1N. A gas blast circuit breaker has a movable nozzle contact 1 operated from a closed position to an open position, against spring 2, pressure, by a high pressure gas blast, and has two pneumatic damping chambers 6 and 12 acting to retard the contact opening and closing movements respectively. Piston 4 forming part of the movable contact 1 slides within the chamber 6 and compresses during the contact opening operation the high pressure gas within, introduced via passage 7. Piston 10 is engaged by a shoulder of the moving contact and compresses gas; introduced into chamber 12 via passage 13, during the closing operation of the contacts. Throttling parts 8 and 11 are provided between respective chambers and low pressure regions. A spring 15 damps the vibrations caused by the opening operation.
