Abstract

1,271,095. Sealing protective sleeves to pipelines; joint-making packing. SOUTHDOWN MEDICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 3 April, 1970 [14 April, 1969], No. 19027/69. Headings F2B and F2P. The annular space between a pipe 1 and a pipe 2, located within pipe 1, is sealed by an annular resilient sealing member 9, formed with opposed annular shoulders 11 and compressed by means of nuts and threaded studs 12 between annular side support plates 3 and 10, the side support plates fitting over the shoulders 11 and plate 3 mounting a cylindrical projection 8, within which the sealing member 9 and plate 10 are located. Plate 3 is of larger diameter than pipe 1 so that it may be welded to the end of pipe 1 with its central aperture concentric with pipe 2. Sealing member 9 may be of neoprene. Components 3, 8, 9 and 10 may be split radially to facilitate assembly around an existing pipe-line.
