A connector for connecting a branch pipe to a main pipe 1 having a hole 2 in the wall thereof comprises a saddle 4 and a spigot 8 which are adapted to be fitted to the pipe 1 from outside the pipe so that the spigot extends into the pipe and inside the saddle, the spigot including radially projecting flange portions 11 which are adapted to engage the inside of the pipe 1 but which are displaceable inwardly towards the axis of the spigot to allow the passage thereof through the hole 2 into the pipe 1 during fitting of the spigot. The connector includes a holding member 3 the operation of which draws the flange portions 11 of the spigot and saddle axially towards each other and against the wall of the pipe so as to form a seal between the connector and pipe 1. As shown, the saddle has a continuous rim 7, or a number of teeth or projections, which extends through a sealing ring 6 and to position the connector, and the spigot of resiliently deformable material, e.g. metal or synthetic plastics, is internally screw-threaded to receive the socket 3 the latter including a flange to compress a sealing ring 13. In a modifications, the spigot has projections or keys to engage and to prevent the spigot from dropping into the pipe, the saddle being correspondingly grooved to accommodate the projections.
