Abstract

Slubbed yarn is produced by, optionally, interlacing or intertwisting the component filaments of a mixed, multifilament yarn or yarns, stretching the yarn or composite yarn until at least one, but not all, filament components have broken so that the yarn comprises continuous filaments and intermittently broken filaments, and then passing such yarn through a pressurised fluid (bulking or interlacing) jet so as to entangle the broken and unbroken filaments and thereby cause bulking at spaced locations along the yarn. Filament combinations in the initial yarn or yarns may be nylon and rayon, polyester and rayon, nylon and cellulose triacetate and polyester and cellulose triacetate.
