[Also in Division Cl] A twisted carbon yarn is produced by twisting carbon fibres together, holding the twisted yarn while subjecting it to a temperature of at least 100‹C higher than the temperature used to carbonise the fibres in a non-oxidising atmosphere. A suitable atmosphere is nitrogen and the fibres may be heated up to 1000‹C above the carbonising temperature.
