Abstract
1,267,888. Electro-photographic developing process. FUJI PHOTO FILM CO. Ltd. Aug.26, 1970 [Aug.27, 1969], No.41100/70. Heading G2H. An electrostatic latent image on an insulating layer having a conductive backing is developed by spacing the insulating layer from an earthed development electrode, applying developer comprising toner in an insulating carrier liquid to the space and earthing the electrode and/or the conductive backing through a resistance of 10<SP>6</SP> to 10<SP>12</SP> #. The resistance may be provided in the form of a resistive base for the conductive layer, but it is preferred to earth the electrode through the resistance. In Fig.9 a nozzle 94 sprays developer between an electrode 93 and an image bearing member 10. In Fig. 14, developing liquid 104 floats on a conductive liquid 140 e.g. water or mercury. Liquid 140 may itself act as the developing electrode, or alternatively a conductive plate 141 may be provided. The embodiment of Fig. 10 (not shown) is similar to that of Fig.14 except that the conductive liquid 140 is dispensed with, a conductive plate being essential. In Fig. 11 (not shown), an image bearing member is passed between a number of pairs of rollers, one roller of each pair being earthed through a resistance and being sprayed with developer. These resistances may progressively increase or decrease along the path of travel of the image bearing member.
