Abstract

1,267,884. Valves. A. KNAPP. 12 Aug., 1970, No. 38808/70. Heading F2V. Disposed within the body of a mixer tap 5 is a sleeve member 1 of a generally tubular configuration having formed thereon two parallel flanges 3 and 4 and a pair of mutually opposed longitudinally extending flanges 6, the flanges 3, 4 and 6 defining therebetween two areas each of which has a port 2. Each port 2 extends through the sleeve wall and communicates the sleeve interior with a channel 8 defined between the mixer body and the sleeve flanges, the degree of such communication being determined by the disposition within the sleeve of an adjustable valve member, not shown. An extension 11 of the sleeve 1 is ported as at 12 to allow the mixed liquids to leave the sleeve and pass, via an annular channel 14, to the mixer outlet 15. The provision of channels 8 and 14 permits the input and output lines 10 and 9, respectively to be orientated at will relative to the mixer body. Thus, Fig. 1 depicts the input lines as being diametrically opposed whereas, Fig. 5, not shown, depicts such lines as being disposed one on each side of, and immediately adjacent a flange 6. In a modification, Fig. 5, not shown, two output channels are provided with such channels being subjected to the selective action of a valve plate (17), the positioning of the plate determining which channel is rendered inoperative. The sleeve, which may be of metal or plastics, is sealed relative to the mixer body by flanges 3, 4 and 6 which, in the event of the sleeve being of metal, may be welded to the body.
