A band saw includes a conveyer for automatically returning a portion of the sawn wood to the saw for further sawing, two feed rollers 17, 21, Fig. 3, mounted on horizontal shafts 16, 20 respectively, one feed roller being in front and the other at the rear of a band saw 22, and means for raising or lowering the shafts 16, 20 in unison. As described the rollers 17, 21 are supported from links 15, 18, 19 and are vertically movable by an air cylinder 24. In operation of the machine, wood 13 is advanced over idle rollers 12 until its leading end operates a limit switch 23a controlling a cylinder 26, Fig. 2. The cylinder causes a guard roller 25 to be moved against one edge of the wood and press its other edge against a guide 23. Means are also provided which enable the roller 25 to be lowered below the level of rollers 12 when the wood 13 is of great width. The rollers 12 may slope towards the guide 23. The wood 13 is then engaged by roller 21 and fed thereby to the band saw 22, the cut wood then being further fed by the roller 17. A guide plate 30, Fig. 3, supported from swingable arms 29 enters the kerf formed by the saw to guide the sawn wood until it engages and is advanced by driven rollers 34. The sawn wood is carried by rollers 34, Fig. 6, to a position above dividing means. The dividing means comprises arms 42, 42<SP>1</SP> carrying nails 41, 41<SP>1</SP> which are moved by linkwork into the kerf of the sawn wood and then moved apart to push part 13a of the sawn wood off the rollers 34 and the other part 13b on to driven rollers 44 which feed it back to the feed end of the machine.
