Abstract

1,267,620. Thermal insulation. SINGER CO. 18 Dec., 1970 [8 April, 1970], No. 60119/70. Heading F2X. The gyroscope, 12, is provided with a thermal shield, 10, which is formed of inner and outer walls, 18, 20 respectively, and incorporates the porous material, 26, which functions as a heat pipe. Water is admitted to the chamber, 22, formed between 18, 20 and undergoes a phase change at the outer wall, 20, so as to maintain a fluid circulation and effect temperature stabilization at 18. Automatic regulation of the temperature is effected by the sensing device, 32, which controls the electric heater 30. In alternative forms, grooves may be formed in either 18, 20, or 26 to facilitate, fluid flow.
