Abstract

1,267,584. Valves. CENTRE DE RECHERCHES DE PONT-A-MOUSSON. 24 June, 1969 [10 July, 1968], No. 31759/69. Heading F2V. A pair of wedge gate valve members 9 cooperate to define a trapezoidal recess 11 for a complementary ring 1 whose cross-section diminishes from a maximum opposite wedge A to a minimum at the free ends adjacent the wedge. The wedge engages in a gap in ring 1 and the latter has uniform bending strength such that, upon relative axial movement of the wedge, the ring expands to seat the valve members whilst its inner and outer peripheries retain a circular shape. Upon withdrawal of the wedge, the ring contracts and recess 12 therein ensures positive easement of the valve members. In a rotary ball valve, Fig. 6 (not shown), the seat (19) is urged towards the ball by a split ring (23) which is expanded and contracted by wedge (A) under control by screw (24). The movements of ring (23) are transmitted to the seat by co-operating trapezoidal section ring (21) and Belleville washer (20).
