Abstract

1,223,347. Valves. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 30 Dec., 1968, No. 61685/68. Heading F2V. A gate valve has a pair of spaced discs 9 moved apart by fluid pressure to engage spaced slots 8. The discs are interconnected by annular rings 14, 17 and bellows 16 and are guided by bars 18 secured to ring 17 and telescoping cylinders 21, 22 secured to the discs and provided with a pin and slot movement-limiting interconnection. Fluid pressure introduced at 6 may be partially vented through pipe 7 to cool the discs. The discs are moved laterally into bonnet 3 by a chain pull, or hydraulic actuator and are guided in such movement by guides 13.
