Abstract

1,134,096. Joint-making packing. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 10 Nov., 1966 [17 Nov., 1965], No. 48846/65. Heading F2B. A sealing ring assembly for a joint between ungrooved flanges 14, 15 comprises a sealing member 12 of P.T.F.E. disposed between inner and outer rigid guide rings 10 and 11 having an axial thickness slightly less than that of the member 12, the walls of the rings and the momber being relatively recessed to accommodate deformation of the member. As shown, stainless steel rings 10 and 11 are chamfered at 13 and, in use, the member deforms into the recessed parts of the rings and the flanges 14 and 15 abut the rings. The chamfers 13 may be replaced by recesses in the rings or by recesses in the member 12.
