Abstract
1285992 Making flanges D N MANTON 26 Jan 1970 [18 Jan 1969] 3017/69 Heading B3A A pipe flange, Fig. 1, having an annular outer part 10 and an annular liner 13 of a corrosion resistant material such as titanium or stainless steel is made by forming an annular member of a strip or sheet of corrosion resistant material and arranging the annular member within the annular outer part so that its inner periphery forms a bearing surface concentric with the bore of the annular outer part and a portion of the member registers with a face of the annular outer part and deforming the member to secure it against axial movement relative to the annular outer part. The member is preferably a flanged bush the flange of which fits into a recess 12 in the annular outer part. It may be secured by deforming part of the bush 15 as shown in Fig. 1. Alternatively the flange may be made frustoconical 25, Fig. 5, with a bevelled edge which can co-operate with an undercut part 23 of the recess in the outer part 20 on deforming the flange to a planar configuration, Fig. 6 (not shown). In a third embodiment the outer part is formed with a frusto-conical bore and the bush formed with a cylindrical outer surface and a frusto-conical inner surface of slope equal and opposite to that of the bore so that by passing a tool through the bush it is deformed to engage the bore of the outer part, Fig. 7 (not shown). The bore of the outer part may be knurled to prevent rotation of the liner or the liner may be allowed to rotate completely or through a predetermined angle.
