Abstract

1,267,360. Cast coating paper. EUROKOTE S.A. 15 March, 1969 [15 March, 1968], No. 61849/68. Heading B2E. A method of cast coating paper wherein a coating composition comprising an aqueous suspension containing one or more mineral pigments and an adhesive and containing air as an impurity is conveyed to one side of the paper via an air-removing machine, the coated side of the paper while still wet as a result of the application of the coating composition is pressed against a heated polished metal surface, and the paper is then allowed to dry to produce in the coating surface an exact mirrorimage copy of the metal surface. The air removing machine may operate at low speed, small centrifugal acceleration force and moderate vacuum and eliminates between 90 and 95% of the air in the coating composition. The heated polished metal surface may be chromium and is periodically polished using a polishing composition containing chromium oxide and grease substances. A heated air jet may be blown over the non-coated side of the paper along its whole width. A compensating layer may be applied to the non-coated side of the paper to avoid ripple or curl, the layer comprising a solution of natural adhesive and hygroscopic substances, and being applied in a glueing press.
