Abstract

1,267,281. Respiratory gas absorbers. T. F. RANKIN. 19 Aug., 1970 [20 Aug., 1969], No. 39962/70. Heading AST. A respiratory gas absorber including upper and lower gas conducting housings 26, 28, a resilient sealing ring 46, 48 fixed around the periphery of each of the housings and one or more gas-purifying canisters clamped between the housings, the canister or canisters having end covers 34. 36 each having a recessed central baffle-portion 38, 40 surrounded by an inclined annular shoulder and one of the sealing rings engaging both the inclined shoulder and the recessed central portion to locate the canister or canisters both axially and radially between the housings. A third sealing ring 68 is interposed between the adjacent covers 64. 66. The sealing rings should be electrically conductive and ring 68 may be provided with a tab 72 to accommodate a chain or wire (not shown) for equalising static potentials with the absorber frame (10), Fig. 1 (not shown). In the case of a single absorbing canister, Fig. 2 (not shown) the lower housing and seal are adapted to generate a dual-planed seal with a narrow end (78) of a canister (80).
