[Also in Division H1] Cadmium cells 4 and on incandescent lamp 5 mounted in a glass envelope are protected from undue rise in temperature when the base 2 is sealed to the bulb 1, and from attack by gases evolved during the sealing process, by two mica shield plates 6 and 7 provided with peripheral recesses, e.g. 8, the plates being arranged such that their respective sets of apertures are staggered with respect to one another, whereby the gas evolved during the sealing process, diluted by a protective gas previously introduced through the still-open exhaust tube 10, has to pursue a zig-zag path when escaping to the latter.
