Abstract
1,267,074. Moulding dispenser cathodes. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. 2 May, 1969 [4 May, 1968], No. 22597/69. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions C7 and H1] A dispenser cathode comprises a pre-formed cathode sleeve 2 e.g. of molybdenum, containing a porous sintered emission member 7 which has been compression moulded within the sleeve 2 from powdered material e.g. tungsten, and sintered subsequent to the moulding operation. A cylindrical cathode sleeve 2, having a recessed end portion formed with a double side wall by a pressing or drawing operation, is located over a bottom die 6 and the emission member 7 is then moulded within and above the recessed end portion from powder which is compressed by an upper plunger 5, the double wall being thereby deformed whereby the emission member is anchored to the cathode sleeve. The moulding is ejected by the upper plunger 5. A heater, whereby the cathode is heated to provide an emission, is located in the sleeve below the recessed end portion so that it is hermetically sealed from the sintered emission member.
