Abstract
1,266,508. Rolling mills. LOEWY ROBERTSON ENG. CO. Ltd. 21 Nov., 1969 [29 Nov., 1968], No. 56926/68. Heading B3M. Roll cleaning apparatus for use in a rolling mill includes brushes 14 and 14<SP>1</SP> each of which is supported at its ends in carriers 24 and is pivotable away from its associated roll in order to permit changing of the brush. The brush is mounted at its ends in plates 22 which are slidably supported in the carriers, the carriers being pivoted to the mill bearings. The plates, and hence, the brush, are urged by small pneumatic cylinders against the adjacent roll. The upper carriers are pivoted at 48 to the housings, and at 58 to the lower carriers. The lower carriers are, in turn, pivoted at 64 to the housings, and are adjustable by cylinders 62. To change the brushes, pivot pins at 48 are removed and the upper carriers are bolted to the lower ones. The assembly is then pivoted by the cylinders 62 to the position shown in Fig. 2. In an alternative arrangement, the upper carriers may be pivoted upwardly and the lower ones downwardly. The brushes have wire bristles and are chain driven. Strip guides 52 and 54 are attached to the carriers.
