Abstract
893,526. Cooling beds for rolling mills. HUTTENWERK OBERHAUSEN A.G., and SCHLOEMANN A.G. Nov. 6, 1959 [Nov. 7, 1958], No. 37682/59. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXX] Apparatus for flushing up the ends of stock in a cooling bed comprises a driven conveying roller and a pressure roller which is adjustable towards the conveying roller and is controlled in dependence upon the tip of the rolled stock meeting a contact bar. Stock 5, 6 is carried from a rolling mill in two lines by live feed rollers 2. The stock 5 is braked in a feed channel 3 and lifted by bottom plates 7 on to a holding arm 8 while the thicker stock is braked and lifted by the plates 9 in a feed channel 4. The stock 5, 6 is then transferred by the moving racks 10 of the cooling bed to the first notch of the fixed racks 11 and proceeds across the bed until on arrival at continuously-driven conveyer rolls 12, 13 pivoted pressure rollers 15, 16 are moved down by fluid operated cylinders. The thrust of the idle pressure rollers 15, 16 is independently adjustable by damping cylinders arranged on pivoted levers supporting the rollers. The rollers 12, 15 and 13, 16 co-operate to move the stock 5, 6 respectively in a longitudinal direction until the forward end of the stock strikes a contact bar 24 which initiates the disengagement of the pressure rollers by reversal of the action of cylinders 21. The stock then proceeds across the remainder of the cooling bed with forward ends evenly arranged in preparation for subsequent shearing. In a modification, Fig. 4, pairs of rollers 30, 31 and 30a, 31a acting on respective lines of stock in two-line operation are staggered longitudinally of the stock and all the rollers are driven through vertical spindles 29, 29a, a common gear-box 49 and a continuously-operating motor 34. The pressure rollers 30, 30a are independently pivoted by tension rods 40 and levers 45 operated by an hydraulic slewing gear 38. The pressure roller slewing gear is controlled by an electrical system in sequence with discs 58, 59 which effect the rack movements, the pressure roller being held disengaged until stock reaches the channel between the rollers, whereupon a contact is opened by it to interrupt the selfholding relay. Pressure in the cylinder of the slewing gear 38 is thus released and the pressure rollers 30, 30a move towards the rollers 31, 31a due to the pressure of springs 42. On the ends of the stock striking the contact bars the slewing gear cylinders are again pressurized to retract the pressure rollers and permit the transfer cycle of the stock across the bed to take place.
