Abstract
1,265,988. Knitting-machines. WILLIAM COTTON Ltd. 22 Oct., 1970 [28 Oct., 1969], No. 52647/69. Heading D1C. A straight bar machine is provided with latch needles 6 lockable to needle bar 7 for knitting by a bar 10 engaging an upper butt 6c. The needles can be disengaged by lowering the bar to act on butts 6d. To effect fashioning or lacing the bar 10 is raised to below the upper butts of the lowered needles shown and the appropriate needles then raised by eyeletted transfer points 16 to clear the loops below the latches. The bar 10 and points are then lowered to draw the needles through the loops which pass onto the points. The points are then shifted laterally and transfer their loops. The upper part 10b of the bar may comprise a series of cut-outs and projections, and can be shogged so that the latter engage each, or alternate butts for plain, or rib knitting respectively. A latch opener is provided.
