Abstract
1,265,871. Self-closing doors; pin and socket hinges. K. P. MAERTIN and S. C. COMBS. 20 Feb., 1969 [21 Feb., 1968; 9 May, 1968], No. 9339/69. Headings E2F and E2M. A self-closing double swing door 5 has its upper pivot horizontally offset toward the centre of gravity of the door and one pivot includes a vertical post 8 protruding from a horizontal frame member, the post bearing a disc 9 upon which rests a roller 17, the roller being attached to a horizontal part of the door. As shown the roller is carried on member 19 of a plate 10 which is rebated into the door. A further plate 15 is attached to the flange 12, this plate bearing a hole in which the post 8 is a loose pivotal fit. The post is rigidly attached to a plate 7 in the frame. The disc 9 may bear a detent into which the roller drops when the door is closed. Instead the lower hinge may be constructed as described (Fig. 4, not shown) and the upper hinge is then of the type illustrated at 21-25 in Fig. 1. Roller 17 may be the outer ring of a ball race.
